Random Friday updates

As we cruise into the weekend, I thought I would lighten things up with a post about what’s currently going on in my life.

1. I love Paleo more and more every day
Man, it’s hard for me to type that. Going into this, I swore to myself that I wouldn’t become one of those annoying peopleย who are all like “OMG Paleo changed my life, ew bread!” But I am loooooving it. The stricter Paleo I am, the better I feel – and the more I notice the effect of dairy and wheat when I try to slip them back in to my diet.

I’m even having adverse reactions to caffeine. Who would have thought?! I’ve had oatmeal twice this month and hated it. That was hard to write too! Going into this, my biggest concern was giving up my morning oatmeal. I don’t enjoy the taste of it anymore and it doesn’t make me feel good afterwards. I’m thriving on my eggs and avocado in the morning. Who am I?!

Don’t get me wrong – I’m still not 100% strict Paleo, and I doubt I ever will be. I have bread once a week and chocolate twice a week, at the very minimum.

I am in love withย Well Fed (last week there was a special going around with 33 ebooks for $39 – how could I say no?!). So far I’ve made Paleo Pad Thai and Moroccan meatballs, and both were amazing. I was nervous to make the Pad Thai after my last failed attempt with spaghetti squash, but it was a mighty success.

I have a renewed passion for cooking now that I’m experimenting with new Paleo recipes, and I try to make something new at least twice a week. It’s hard when everything tastes so good and I want to make them again and again – for example, I haven’t been able to go more than a week without making Erica’s taco meatballs or zucchini boats. SO GOOD.

2. My skin is winning!
Through the aforementioned ebook bundle, I was introduced to Tracy fromย the Love Vitamin and her wonderful ebook. I’m only halfway through the book, but I can’t recommend it enough already. Tracy believes in an all-natural approach to treating acne, and has had remarkable results herself from changing her diet and skincare regime.

I am 100% on board – as per her suggestions, I have started cleansing my face with jojoba oil and applying a manuka honey mask for 30 minutes every morning (much to the amusement of my husband!). I have stopped using all other artificial creams and washes. It’s only been a week but my skin feels amazing already!

3. It is freezing in London
The weather throughout December and most of January has been very pleasant. While I listen to my friends back in Australia complaining about the ongoing national heatwave, I’ve been enjoying a mild European winter. The temperature has been settling between a balmy 10 and 12 degrees Celcius.

This week the bottom fell out. It has been zero or below every day – the coldest I’ve ever felt in my life! On the plus side, I saw snow for the first time ever. I must be the only Londoner excited to see snowflakes! It’s weird but I actually love the cold – there is something so cool about freezing temperatures but shining sun. I am still surviving riding my bicycle too!

4. I had way too much fun at WholeFoods the other day
My work is a five minute walk from WholeFoods. Dangerous. The store is a huge three levels and I usually only stick to the ground floor to get a brown box. Rob and I have started shopping there every so often, but he doesn’t give me enough time to leisurely browse. This time I ventured down to the lower levels on my own for ‘just a couple of things’ and got so distracted I was late for a client appointment!

Some of my finds: Almond Breeze chocolate almond milk, a Naked bar, a Luna bar, sunflower seed butter, almond butter, liquid aminos. All things I have never had before! It’s nice to see things on blogs from my North American friends, and actually be able to find them!

5. Sweat like a Pig is a top weight loss blog for 2012!
Although I wouldn’t necessarily consider this a weight loss blog, I do try to inspire as many people as possible to live a healthy life through the iron. I’m appreciative of the recognition either way. Check out the list of bloggers here!
