On the weekend of May 17-19 the biggest fitness expo in the UK, BodyPower, takes place in Birmingham. Last year I was living under a rock and didn’t hear about the expo until the week of, when train tickets and accommodation prices were through the roof, so I didn’t go.
Mark my words, I was not about to make the same mistake this year. Especially because Dana Linn Bailey is going!! It’s quite ironic that the very day her appearance was announced was the day I had been complaining about the fact no good women were going.
While famous male bodybuilders attending include Phil Heath, Jay Cutler, Kai Greene, Ronnie Coleman, Branch Warren, Dorian Yates, Flex Lewis, Rich Gaspari and Jim Stoppani (just to name a few!), prior to DLB’s announcement the only women I had heard of were Adele Garcia and Larissa Reis – neither of which I was very excited about seeing.
Needless to say, I nearly peed my pants with excitement when I realised I’d be meeting DLB in just a few short weeks. She is my number one motivation and I’m nervous to see her!
Aside from the athletes, the expo also has a number of features I’m looking forward to including seminars on female fat loss, metabolic damage and muscle building, a presentation from the fabulous Anna Sward of Protein Pow(d)er and the launch of protein frozen yoghurt!
Rob and I are heading up to Birmingham Friday afternoon, but we will only be attending the expo on Sunday. It also happens to be our wedding anniversary weekend so we are staying at a nice hotel and will likely spend Saturday eating and getting massages.
It’s not the first time we’ve spent our wedding anniversary doing something fitness-related – we spent our first anniversary at a bodybuilding expo! Last year was fitness-free in Amsterdam.
If you are in the UK, please come along to the expo! I’d be happy to meet anyone who is around. For those of you not in the country, I will be sure to do a full write-up of my DLB experience!
Have you ever been to a fitness expo? I’ve been to the one in Sydney twice, where I got to see Amanda Latona. This is embarrassing to admit, but I was too shy to talk to her!
PS. I was not compensated for writing this post or anything (I wish!). I just want to make sure none of my UK readers miss out on the expo!
