Training in Ibiza

After a middle-of-the-night flight, I’m back from Ibiza. Like last year, it was amazing – my favourite place on earth! I saw some of my favourite DJs, danced my butt off, partied until dawn, slept the days away and got a killer tan.

Most of the photos we took are on my friend’s camera, but here’s some I snapped with my phone.

We also rented scooters to explore the island. So beautiful and relaxing! I stayed on the opposite side of the island to last year and it was much nicer.

I only trained twice while I was away. I did sneak in two very intense sessions with my trainer before I left, which took a huge toll on my body. I didn’t seem to lose any strength having been in Montenegro – last Monday I hit a 95kg zercher squat, 110kg deadlift and 75kg back squat. Not the best I’ve ever done, but I certainly didn’t become weaker.

Tuesday’s events sessions was all over the place. My pressing sucked big time (I think because it’s the event I’m most worried about!), but I hit a farmers walk PR with 67kg in each hand. I now have the callouses to prove it!

We also did bag carries and sled pulls and drags. A powerlifting friend of mine has signed up for my comp as well, so we’re doing our events training together with my trainer. She kicks my butt on everything so it’s good to have some inspiration right in front of me!

We stayed out until 8am on our first night in Ibiza, so the gym definitely wasn’t happening! The next day we slept until 3pm so that made things difficult again. I found an apparent ‘serious bodybuilding’ gym within walking distance to my hotel, which I trained at. I scared the crap out of some Spanish guys!

On day one, the owner saw me loading a 20kg plate on to the barbell and offered to help me. When I said I was fine, he insisted, so I asked him to grab two more plates and enjoyed watching his mouth fall open. During my second workout, two pretty fit guys asked to use the barbell when I was finished overhead pressing because they wanted to do the same. I then had to help them unload the weight. Ha, I forgot how fun it is to kick everyone’s butts in a ‘normal’ gym!

The gym also randomly had a tyre! It was about 1000 degrees in there, so I was not doing any form of cardio whatsoever. I used the heaviest dumbbells they had for my grip work, and scared some more boys!

My diet was pretty bad while I was away. I made sure to get in lots of calories, but because I was only eating two or three times a day, that meant a lot of pasta, bread, etc. I barely had any vegetables so I’m craving salads hardcore right now! I also drank almost every day, but kept it to no more than two drinks.
