I can’t believe I am moving in eight days! It still doesn’t seem real. I have been so busy trying to tie up all my loose ends and see my friends before I leave that I haven’t even thought about what the heck I’m going to do once I arrive in Italy. I guess I’ll just figure that out when I arrive!
I finally started packing yesterday and once again got to experience the joy of trying to pack my entire life into a single 23kg bag. Gah. I have not packed any winter clothes, but I figure I will cross that bridge when I come to it… or just chase the summer from country to country.
Simultaneously, I’ve been working on my ebook. I finally finished it this morning and have shipped it off to my designer, so I’m hoping to launch that next week if all goes to plan!
Getting ready for a major move has been surprisingly easy. The only thing that has been difficult has been my phone, as I still have 18 months left on my contract and £700 to pay out. Argh.
Getting rid of my books is always tough. I should really learn by now and just buy a kindle, because the amount of books I have accumulated in the past two years is just ridiculous. This isn’t even all of them.
I’ve been doing all the touristy things to say goodbye to London. Big Ben is a less than 10 minute walk from my house, yet I hadn’t visited it since I was on holiday here six years ago. Oops.
I also cruised by Buckingham Palace. London is a babe in the summertime.
Monday – Squats
Squat: 20kg x 8, 8, 40kg x 5, 60kg x 5, 75kg x 3, 90kg x 3 x 3
Good mornings: 40kg x 12 x 3
Split squats: 9kg DBs x 8 x 3
Leg extensions: 160lbs x 12 x 3
This was the first time I had squatted in a few weeks, and my old creaky hips weren’t liking it. Nevertheless, I hit all my reps and sets. This was Em’s first session back after her comp, so we took it relatively easy – but those bodybuilding exercises ruined my legs for days afterwards!
Tuesday – Bench
Bench press: 20kg x 12, 40kg x 5, 47.5kg x 3, 54kg x 1, 1, 52kg x 2
Neutral grip DB press: 16.5kg x 8-10 x 3
Overhead rope extensions: 30kg x 20 x 2
Rope pushdowns: 20kg x 40 x 2
I have been on such a roll with my bench lately, so I was so angry to fail both of my second reps on my working sets. I was still getting over the lurgy, so I’m going to blame that for my shoddy performance.
It actually felt like my head was exploding. Damn you, bench!
Thursday – Deadlifts
Deadlifts: 60kg x 8, 80kg x 5, 100kg x 5, 112.5kg x 3, 126kg x 2 x 2
Bent over rows: 50kg x 10 x 3
Lat pulldowns: Approx. 50kg x 10-12
Alternate DB curls: 9kg x 20 x 3
This was the first time Em and I have deadlifted together in about a month, and it was my first deadlift session post-competition. The weight felt surprisingly good! I’m beyond excited to max out this week.
Friday – Overhead
Log press: 30kg x 8, 35kg x 5, 40kg x 3, 45kg x 1, 47.5kg x 2 x 3
Z press: 35kg x 8 x 3
Single arm DB clean and press: 25kg x 5 x 3 (right side), 22.5kg x 5 x 3 (left side)
Earthquake press: 22.5kg x 8 x 3
Rotator cuff work
Standing cable crunches: 20 x 4
I didn’t film my log press this week, but I promise it went up like a feather. I thought I would do some dumbbell clean and presses for something a little different.
It just dawned on me that I am literally pressing more weight in one arm than what I am taking with me to travel around the world. Oy.
I have mentioned earthquake presses a few times, and received some questions about them, so I thought I would film a set. They look deceptively easy but burn like hell!
I have been eating out at almost every meal. YOLO and all that. I feel like crap because of it so I can’t wait to actually get out of London and away from all the burgers. I will of course be eating pizza, pasta and gelato like there’s no tomorrow, but I need to give my stomach a little bit of a break first.
On Tuesday, I helped my friend pick out a ball gown. Naturally, I wanted to try some on too.
Afterwards, we went to Patty and Bun – what else goes hand in hand with dress shopping? I ordered the Ari Gold cheeseburger with bacon, as usual.
On Friday, Em and I went to the Tate Modern and then finally tried Bleecker Street Burger. I had it again on Sunday, when another friend came to visit. It’s around the corner from me – give me a break 😉
I have read so much about Bleecker Street, but it was not worth the hype. I first tried the Bleecker Black, which is black pudding sandwiched between two beef patties. It was about a 7/10, so definitely not worthy of its apparent “best burger in the world” title.
On Sunday, I had the bacon cheeseburger. It tasted a lot like McDonald’s. Major let down.
The milkshake was good (but really, how can you screw up a milkshake?!) and the Angry Fries (fries with hot sauce and blue cheese) were tasty, but I was overall not that impressed. It’s also quite expensive for a food truck: £14 ($22) for a burger and fries!
Patty and Bun for life.
All those burgers better help me when I test my maxes this week. Tomorrow is bench, Thursday is deadlift, Sunday is log and next Monday is squat day (and my last training session in the UK!!)!
I will try to check in one more time before I go…. eeeek!
How many burgers is it socially acceptable to eat in one week? Have you ever tried to pack everything you own into one bag?
