Back to (somewhat) normal training

Back to (somewhat) normal training

Greetings from Guatemala! We arrived in Antigua at 6am on Monday morning and have been go-go-go ever since. We are heading off to San Pedro La Laguna tomorrow, so I thought I’d blog before I lose internet connection for five days (an admittedly exciting thought!).

Our flight here was stupidly long, dragged out by the fact that we had a 10 hour layover in LA. We headed to Venice Beach, which we were kind of underwhelmed about.

Naturally, we went to Muscle Beach.

We did manage to cross the most important things off our list: In-N-Out Burger and Cold Stone Creamery. Both got my tick of approval. (Also, I know I was supposed to have animal-style fries, but we were both feeling a bit sick so we decided to save them for next time.)

I won’t share any pictures of Guatemala just yet, but it’s beautiful. This is a country I’d never thought I’d visit, despite the fact that my friend has previously been here for multiple extended periods and has repeatedly told me that it’s her favourite place on earth. Coming from someone who has been to more than 50 countries, I take her recommendations seriously.

I’m very happy to be here and excited for the next month. It’s awesome being able to travel with someone else for eight weeks. It also helps that she can speak Spanish, so she is serving as my own personal translator.

On Monday, we joined a gym here in Antigua. It feels great to actually be able to commit to training regularly, as my training has been all over the place since I left Croatia.

My friend is on a mission to lose loads of weight while we are here, so we will be training almost every day, apart from when we make a couple of excursions to other parts of Guatemala. The gym is surprisingly well equipped and it was only €29 for the whole month, which is what I paid for one workout in Paris.

It’s ridiculously cheap here. We are paying US$13 a day for board and three meals. Alcoholic drinks are 40 cents each.

Training wise, I’m following the programming from my first group coaching program at the moment. I’m not expecting to hit any PRs given what we are eating and drinking, but I’m currently very happy to just enjoy my life.

I hope you all have a great week, and I’ll check in again soon!

Have you ever been to Guatemala?
